The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Ropes & Gray in Nov 2011
Interview
I first interviewed on campus and was then invited for a full scale interview at the actual Ropes and Gray office. Both interviews were pretty casual, with the usual "get to know me" questions. The on-site interview involved about 6-7 interviewers plus a lunch. Some of the major questions were "Describe your research in grad school in simple terms" and "Why do you want this job?".
After these questions, the second half usually entailed of me asking them questions. I had to ask a lot of questions, which was helpful because it made me get to know them better. I recommend preparing a large list of questions (~20 questions) so you can have ideas at your disposal.
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Ropes & Gray (Boston, MA) in Jan 2021
Interview
Th e 1st interview was with 2 partners, the 2nd interview was with 4 partners, all online. People were nice. They asked a lot of questions and expect you to ask a lot of questions as well.
I applied through college or university. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Ropes & Gray (East Palo Alto, CA) in Dec 2018
Interview
First round was on-campus. Quick 30 minute interview with an associate from the firm.
Second round was at their office, met with 1 partner and 3 associates, one of which was a former technical advisor, over a 2.5 hour period.
Every attorney I spoke with was very friendly, but the HR folks were unpleasant during the process of setting up the second interview.
Received a rejection email a month later.
I applied through college or university. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Ropes & Gray (Berkeley, CA) in Oct 2018
Interview
I applied through handshake and received an on-campus interview within 1 week. I was interviewed by a patent lawyer. The interview was short, 30 min. 10 mins asking about my resume and why I want to work as a technical advisor. 20 mins for me to ask questions about the job/company etc. I was not asked to analyze a patent claim. It took about 2 weeks to hear back, but I did not get the second round on-site interview.
