I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Ross Stores (San Diego, CA) in Jul 2012
Interview
I saw a sign that they were hiring in the window of the store. I applied online, got a call the next day for an interview. I arrived at the store and waited a while with the other job candidates until the security office took us to the staff room. It was a group interview. The human resources lady was very, VERY nice. She told us she liked us all. She asked us our experience, which I didn't have any. Then told us the positions, how many hours, and the pay. She then told us we will receive a background check email. She also told us we were going to have to do another interview with the store manager in 2 days and she will call us. I haven't done that interview yet because it's tomorrow. But, she told us that we all practically had the job already, because they are opening a new Ross store in that area and they needed about 30 people there.
I got an email 3 days later saying I got the job, and had to come to orientation.
The interview process at Ross Dress for Less consisted of meeting with a store manager to discuss my customer service experience, cash handling skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment. I was asked situational questions about handling customers, teamwork, and resolving problems. The process was straightforward and focused on my availability, work ethic, and ability to support store operations
Fast and easy! They mainly asked about my previous work experiences and my availability. They also asked what great customer service is like to you and why I would be a good fit to the company.

I interviewed at Ross Stores (Flagstaff, AZ)
Interview
I was interviewed over the phone and than asked to come in person. So I could meet the team and talk to them. It wasn't too hard but it was kind of a waste as I didn't get a call back.
