      Onsite Supervisor Interview

      Apr 5, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Raleigh, NC
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Ryan Homes (Raleigh, NC) in Mar 2018

      Interview

I met a Project Manager at a college career fair and spent about 15 minutes talking to him about the positioning and opportunities. He seemed excited about my skills and experience and said that he would pass my information along. About a week later I got a general email from a Recruiter requesting to set up an interview time. It was a standard 30 minute conversation about my resume and career aspirations. She was very nice and seemed to be quite interested in my experience as well. Another week passed and I received another general email asking to confirm a panel interview day. I was interviewing out of state because I had planned to move after graduation so I had asked that the interview be over spring break. They scheduled me a week after my spring break so I was accommodating and drove 5 hours down the night before, booked a hotel room, and was at their office for the panel interview the next morning. The three guys I interviewed with separately, for an hour each, were kind but they were reading behavioral interview questions from a piece of paper. It was difficult to break the ice with how formal the interview was but they seemed to loosen up as each hour ended. The second guy I interviewed with made a comment that he thought it was interesting that I was a woman from a design school trying to get into construction, by quickly saved himself by saying that his female project managers run some of the best sites. I still don’t think it was appropriate to bring up in the first place. All three guys were nice, but the whole process felt very corporate and impersonal. I had years of management experience and internships in both construction and design so I’m not sure what threw them off. Make sure you do your homework, it seemed as though they were looking for very specific answers to their questions.
