I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Ryan Homes (Dagsboro, DE) in Apr 2013
Interview
Have been applying online for years and have been in contact with multiple production managers. For me, this experience started with a call from the production manager. Had a short phone interview and I thought it went well. Said he wanted to bring me in for a panel interview. Filled out a more detailed application and completed an aptitude test. That was scheduled for about 2 weeks later. When I arrived I was put into a conference room with 3 other applicants. My interview was one on one with four different people, two production managers and two division managers, lasting anywhere from 30 to 50 minutes each. They ask behavioral questions and are looking for certain responses. If you don't hit certain keywords or phrases, they don't want you. Doesn't matter how qualified you are or how much experience you have. They did have sandwiches at the end. Anyway, after my last interview I asked the production manager who called me specifically to contact me me either way and give me some feedback good or bad, instead of the standard blast email from HR. Two weeks went by and I got nothing. Finally followed up with him and got nothing back. Two days later I get the email from HR, "Other applicants more closely match our needs". I guess having a passion for building, attention to detail and strong desire to build a quality house are not what they are looking for. This company is looking for people who will submit to who they want you to be. If you have life experience and are able to think for yourself, they are not interested and you should not be either. The training program they offer is great and I thought it would be valuable to my career, but they did not feel the same way. Overall a good experience and life anything in life, learn from it and move on.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Toughest thing I was asked was "Tell me about how you adapt." I was thrown and had to ask him to clarify, which seemed to upset him. He should have phrased it as "what is your porcess for problem solving", which is what he meant. That I can answer, but he threw me with wordplay. What he wanted was gather the facts, ask questions, then present a couple solutions. Which is exactly what I would have answered if he had worded it right.
I applied online. I interviewed at Ryan Homes in Jun 2026
Interview
Had a phone screening with a Regional HR rep that led to an in-person interview. The in-person interview was extremely structured which was a breath of fresh air. I had the opportunity to interview with 2 panels one had 3 people the other had 2. Each panel was limited to 45 minutes with a 10 minute gap in-between. The interviewers we current supervisors most of whom started in the roll I interviewed for. They were able to provide excellent insight into the roll and answer the questions I had about it. They allowed me to talk about my relevant experience and asked maybe 4 or 5 questions total but nothing out of the ordinary
Very STAR based questions. They ask you to talk about a time you experienced a certain situation, and you tell them what happened. The entire interview was about 2 hours long, three different interviewers back to back.

Question 1
Talk about a time I dealt with a difficult customer.
Panel interview with 5 production managers. Normal questions and nice guys. Just getting a feel for you as a person and your experience. It was simple and nothing too crazy.
