      Consultatant Project Manager Interview

      Sep 17, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Pittsburgh, PA
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at SDLC Partners (Pittsburgh, PA) in Sep 2021

      Interview

2 step interview process. The first part was with the Recruiter, and the 2nd was a 75 minute two-part interview with the department Manager (45 minutes) and Sr. Director (the last 30 minutes). The Recruiter was fantastic. She was very transparent about the process, the benefits, 401k, etc. She also provided some documentation on how to best prepare for the 2nd interview. She was there to help answer any questions at all points in the process. It made it difficult to eventually turn down the offer because I felt so good about that part of the process. The 2nd interview went well, but was very tough and quite long. There were a lot of questions, and a lot of walking through critical thinking steps in solving an issue. There were two questions that I wasn't 100% sure of the answer, and was called out by the interviewer as giving an incorrect response, which he then told me how the question should have been answered. I understand the client wants to see how the interviewee does under pressure and how they respond to criticism, but it also made me second guess if this was a good fit for me if this was going to be how things were on a day-to-day basis. I received an offer for a "Consultant Project Manager" about 1 full business day after the interview, and was given 48 hours to accept/decline. They have 3 levels of PMs - Junior, Consultant and Senior. I believed I was a "Senior" based on my skills and qualifications and was a little disappointed with the offer, but still mulled the offer very heavily as it was definitely still competitive for the market. After bringing the offer to my current employer, they were able to match the compensation and address some other issues I had. I ultimately declined the offer and stayed with my current company.
