I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at ST Engineering (Jurong East New Town, ) in Jun 2021
Interview
The process goes like this,
1. Shortlisting based on CV
2. Online exam in HackerRank
3. Online interview with a team member
4. Face to face interview at Jurong East Office
After applying online, I was shortlisted for an online test through HackerRank. There were around 15 Multiple choice questions followed by one programming assesment. The Multiple choice questions were testing the basics of machine learning. The programming assessment is a question that you would typically see in LeetCode.
After the exam, HR followed up with me and told me that I was shortlisted for an online interview with a senior engineer. The interview is around 45 minutes, mainly to discuss my previous experiences and future work. After the interview, I was asked to come to ST Engineering at Jurong East office for a face to face interview. In the face to face interview, there were around 4 senior persons, include a Vice president and a department head. Questions were mainly about my project and my ideas for future work. The future work is on using computer vision techniques for applications such as Surveillance, Facial recognition. The interview went extremely well, and the vice president even complemented my projects as impressive. I was hoping to get an offer but I was ghosted, unfortunately :(
I put in a lot of effort and spent a lot of time preparing for the multiple rounds of interviews. At least they should have informed their decision without ghosting me.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
1. What techniques do you use for recognizing the objects in the video? Go through the process step by step?
2. What are tools do you use for annotating images?
3. The manual annotation in supervised learning is extremely time-consuming. How do you mitigate it further?
4. Explain Faster RCNN and how it works? What are other object detection models have you used?
5. What are jobs did you apply? What are sectors do you targeting? This is the most tricky question that I faced. I told them that I am interested in Machine learning projects in Computer vision, and open to Tech and Engineering companies. They asked me why ST Engineering and not Shopee?
6. There were many other technical questions related to my projects.
interview was fairly smooth, interviewer was really nice. Asked me about my project background and I explained it. Role was not a really good fit with my experience but the overall process is okay
Interview process is quite straightforward. 1 hour interview followed by 2 hour technical test (Like final year examination back in university). Technical test is filled with open-ended questions and some basic coding tests
Interviewer was sexist and questioned performance and abilities based on gender. Interview panel (comprised of all males) did not react negatively to this which could indicate this is a norm
