It all started with a recruiter. He called me the day after applying. We decided it was a good fit and he said he would send my information on to the hiring manager.
The hiring manager called me in the middle of the day for an impromptu 30 minute interview. Strange and a bit unprofessional, but ok. They then sent me a simulation to complete. It kept glitching out, but it said I was not allowed to start and stop it so I just went with it. Have no idea how I did or if the answers I was giving were even computing half the time.
Then I went on vacation with my family. The hiring manager proceeds to put an interview on my calendar for when I was still out of state. No heads up, no prior discussion. I responded that I was not able to make it as we would still be out of state. His response’s subtext made it seem like I should have came home 2 days earlier just for this opportunity and told me that if there’s still an opening, he would keep me on the list of eligible candidates.
Huge red flag. If a company cannot respect boundaries or work/life balance before they even send you an offer letter, it’s best to move on. I asked him to remove me from his list.
