Samsara Sales Engineer interview questions

Lengthy, but logical. First call was with HR as a screen, then a call with the hiring manager. After that a face-to-face with the hiring manager before a flight to San Francisco for four separate interviews. Unfortunately direct coding background was required which was not made clear in the original job listing, nor any of the other steps in the process until the end. I did explicitly mention to HR, the Hiring Manager and one of the SF interviews that I was not a coder, but had a Telematics background but it seems this crucial part of the decision was glossed over.

I was contacted by the recruiter through LinkedIn. Initially the budget for the position was significantly below market so we did not move forward. A month or so later the recruiter reached out again saying the budget has changed. We went through a few basic screening questions and scheduled a technical screen with one of their engineers. 30 min call with the engineer, also pretty basic. General technology questions based on past experience. He did ask me about my salary expectations which was odd given he is not HR or the hiring manager. Onsite with 3 30 min interviews, same engineer and 2 execs. Sales execs wasn't too interested in talking to me but overall it was decent. No complaints. Nothing too difficult, they asked basic questions about how I would handle various situations. They reached out the next day saying they will not move forward. Did not really get a clear answer why, just that they didn't like the reason I was looking for a new job. Next step was going to be a HW assignment, something related to using their APIs. I was curious to test one of their sensors but it wasn't meant to be. They mentioned some parts of the job will be extremely boring, like selling their hardware to a small time trucker with no understanding of technology. It was probably a test but it didn't sound very appealing. Product overall was kind of boring too and they are targeting a pretty niche industry of fleet management. Technology itself is pretty cool and can expand into more interesting use cases which I think is their end game. At the end of the day I think they were looking for a typical SE with emphasis on sales not technology which I would agree is not a good fit for me. As pointed out by another reviewer, their location is pretty awful. The office itself is nice, tents are about block away closer to the highway, few random ones around the block. Not a pretty area.
