TL;DR - Long application, quick phone review, great first interview/exam, pathetic second interview, horrible at communication. I had high expectations about Scheels. I have known some people that work there, shop there often, and know a lot about the company. However, after I had interviews with them, my perspective changed dramatically. I applied online as a sales associate with their very lengthy application and heard back soon after with a phone review. I did my first interview and written exam in person and thought it went well. The second interview on the other hand was awful. The person interviewing me let me know that the job I applied for wasn't available anymore and said that this interview was for a cashier position. I asked a question about the situation, and the interviewer couldn't give me an honest answer. I felt manipulated especially since I had a school background in sales. The interview was a shotgun approach with questions that I had to answer correctly before moving on. Not conversational at all and the interviewer didn't bother looking at my application ahead of time. I have done a few interviews lately and none have been like this. Ultimately, Scheels may be a store to buy goods at, but how they handle the interview process was embarrassing. If there is anything that I learned from this interview, it is this... Scheels wants to be the best retailer in the eyes of its customers, associates, and business partners. Except, their associates don't see it that way based on how they behave towards the company.
