Scotiabank Software Engineer interview questions

I got a face- to - face interview scheduled in a week after posting my resume for the job application. The interview was easy and I was informed I cleared it. However the hiring manager wanted to go through a few more candidate profiles before taking a decision. A week later I received an email asking my salary expectations. On quoting the very basic market rate, I got an instant reply that an old contractor wanted to come back so the position got cancelled.
