I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Scribd Inc. (San Francisco, CA) in Apr 2016
Interview
I had three interviews:
1. with the recruiting manager
2./3. each with one iOS engineer from the team I was applying to
Note that after the first interview I got a takehome challenge where I should build a small iOS app with a few requirements. The company said I shouldn't invest more than two hours into it.
The recruiter interview was rather purely conversational without technical questions. The recruiter was very nice and seemed prepared for the interview.
The first technical interview also was a very pleasant experience. It took almost two hours. During the first hour I was asked about my background in iOS development and some basic/advanced technical questions (iOS related). The interviewer was extremely nice and encouraged me during the interview. During the second hour of the interview, I was able to ask questions about the developer life at Scribd and gain some insights into what it's like working there.
The second technical interview was with another developer and only went for one hour. It consisted only of technical questions about iOS development and some higher-level questions.
Question/discussion topics were:
- Communication patterns on iOS (explaining, pros/cons)
- Memory Management
- Objective-C/Swift
The only thing I didn't like so much was that I didn't know what format the technical phone screens would have. I didn't know whether I would have to do live coding and what technical domain I would be tested. It ended up to be conversations with only technical questions about iOS development, but it would have been nice to know that in advance for proper preparation.
