Although most people I met during the interview process were friendly, the experience with the recruiter was terrible. Scribd needs to hire another recruiter. The current one is very slow to respond/totally unresponsive--not a good experience for a candidate. She asks candidates to write a linkedin review for her in her very first email. Then she goes dark for weeks at a time. Very unprofessional. To her credit, she claimed to be their only recruiter, so she may be overworked. Although I doubt her behavior would change much, even if she had help. As for the interviews, the questions asked were pretty basic. No takehome data challenges or any advanced data science questions. It didn't seem like they were actually hiring anyone when I went to my onsite. Or maybe they already hired someone, and just wanted to waste my time. The recruiter stressed learning the product and doing a trial with it--but ultimately, that was a waste of time as well. I wasn't asked any difficult questions about the product. I was very excited to work for Scribd when I applied, but the whole experience left me with a negative impression of the company. Scribd needs to improve their interview process and train their front line.
