I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Scribd Inc. (San Francisco, CA) in Sep 2018
Interview
Round one phone interview with HR (always so useful)! Round two was an assignment asked to be done in 2 hours and all work checked in to a GitHub repo. Round three was a tech phone interview with the lead to discuss the assignment. Round four they flew me out to San Francisco to have 5 1-hr sessions with the 5 iOS devs including the lead at the end. These hours each focussed on different aspects of mobile app development including a proposed model for the news feed portion, uicollectionviewcell performance issues, extending the assignment to build out a tabbar based app, writing an ApiManager and discussions around generics, the “waterfall” algorithm question (with some arrogant British guy who was disgruntled that he wasn’t the lead dev), the whiteboard was cleverly taken out of the room near the end, then an awkward final 10 min interview leaving me with many questions about how I did, though did realize I failed after some comments about competition etc.!

Question 1
Fix the broken (simple) app that makes a service call using URLSession, and uses JSONDecoder and Codable to parse into the model.
Turn the assignment into a tab bar based app, though we do not use Interface Builder at all and require 100% programmatic solutioning (obviously) including managing constraints programmatically (in an effort to not have Storyboard/XIB conflicts)!
I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Scribd Inc. in Jun 2018
Interview
Starts with a phone interview with the HR, talking about your experience and background. Which later on leads to providing recent code examples (Github, coding challenges, etc). After that, they schedule you for a phone screen with an engineering manager which asks you some questions over the phone. I suspect later on is an on-site interview but since I haven’t got that far I wouldn’t know.
I do want to add that even though I answered the phone screen questions with full marks (the manager was like “correct, correct, correct...”), I still got a “we’re moving on with better candidates” declining email without further explanation, which lets you question the companys’ standards on screening out people.
