      Cashier Interview

      Sep 30, 2012

      Greeley, CO
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Sears (Greeley, CO) in Sep 2012

      Interview

I applied online for multiple positions in the company and they called me in for a cashier job. I went to my first interview which was in a back area with hardly anyone around. I waited twenty minutes while the person who was suppose to interview me could find time to come and talk to me. This was 2pm and there were no customers in the store and the Sears is in a mall that is failing, no real excuse. The first interview went well as I was asked the basic questions like "what do you do under stress?" "when was a time you were better than expected?" and so on. I set up an appointment for my second interview that day for the following week. The second interview started with me going to the HR department and waiting an hour for the manager who was suppose to interview me because he was in a meeting. This was a department meeting so you would think they would have known about this in advance when they asked me to come in for a second interview. When he finally showed up looking not very professional which shocked me because he was the store manager. He asked me follow up questions like 3 problems with ordering online and then how I would fix these problems if a customer asked about the Sears website. I was asked a few more situation questions and then the reason that I felt compelled to write this review, exactly what I was going be doing and what was expected of me. I haven't worked retail before and they decided to start me at $7.64 an hour. I wouldn't get over 28 hours in a week no matter what. I was expected to sell 150%, that's right 150% credit for they people who came across the register. This Sears is in a poor income college town where people aren't going to sign up for credit. Not only that but this is a daily, weekly and monthly requirement. If you can't reach these numbers you get written up. I was to ask the customer 3 times, no more, no less, if they wanted credit then offer them the mastercard and then offer them the store card. Would you want to shop there after all that nagging? If they had offered me the job I would have declined because the last thing I need is to be fired because of forces I can't control. No wonder Sears is failing.

Took like 20 mins. Very easy but questions seemed random. It also seemed like management had no idea they had interviews scheduled cuz there were several of us waiting for a long time

      Interview

The interview process can vary depending on the company and position, but here’s a general idea of what to expect: 1. Application Review: After applying, they’ll review your resume. If they’re interested, you’ll get a call or email to set up an interview. 2. Phone/Video Interview: A lot of places do an initial screening over the phone or via video call. They’ll ask about your background, why you're interested in the job, and how your skills fit the role. It’s usually a casual chat, but make sure to prepare by knowing the company and job description. 3. In-Person Interview: If you pass the initial screening
