I interviewed at Sunset Memory Gardens in Kokomo, IN, and they wrote me off the minute they saw me even though I have 13 years of experience. Maybe it was because I was wearing a mask or because I'm brown, but it was an unprofessional, lazy interview. She didn't actually ask me any questions a serious interviewer would ask, such as how do you handle challenges, what experience do you bring that sets you apart from other candidates, etc. She didn't even have my resume in front of her or bother to take any kind of notes on what I did say that was relevant to the job. Honestly, what a waste of gas to drive to that interview. I ended up accepting an offer for another job that will actually compensate me for my experience and has actual benefits. Here are some highlights: Interviewer, after seeing me wearing a mask: "I don't judge either way. I'm just grateful our company didn't mandate vaccines because, to be honest, most of us aren't vaccinated. They're kind of like wearing earrings, some people do, some people don't." Me, already deciding not to take the job: "Good to know." Interviewer: "We have a lot of diversity, it's amazing." Me, who has seen every employee, all of whom are white: ". . ." Interviewer goes on to say the job is easy, there are no benefits or much-accrued vacation time, and I'd have to work 6 days a week sometimes. No actual questions for me to answer. Then: "Oh, it's 12.50 an hour. We just really want someone who's going to stay and who's here for the right reasons." Me, who has done research to know that the average market rate for this position is $20 and is trying not to laugh: "Okay!"
