I was contacted by the head of recruiting to interview for a PM role. After speaking with the team lead, I was scheduled to go through a full interview loop and ultimately was scheduled to speak with the CTO. Prior to starting any interviews, I was told I needed to provide all my references and have them complete an online form. Given that I was still employed at another company, I stated that I could not provide references from that company until after I secured/accepted an offer. I made it very clear that I did not want anyone at my current company knowing I was interviewing. The recruiter assured me I could provide older references and empathized with my quandary. I then met with three members of the team and the CTO. I provided feedback that the loop felt short and rather insufficient and was subsequently scheduled to speak with another member of the product team for additional context and assessment. During this time, the recruiter I was working with was let go from the company, so I was moved over to work with another recruiter. I then found out that the CTO had reached out to a current colleague on my team, revealing to her that I was interviewing at this company, which she brought up to me. I was absolutely mortified but nevertheless continued on with the fifth interview of the round. From there, I received numerous emails from the new recruiter about how scheduling a debrief had been challenging, and then never heard anything again (it's been over a month since the last email). The complete lack of professionalism and blatant disrespect astounded me, especially after hearing so many great things about the culture and meeting some genuinely wonderful people from the team.
