Long story but essential read.
In a nutshell, a train-wreck from begin-to-end.
I pretty much fulfilled all the requirements of the ad, applied and got an interview. I did get an interview and the details of the interviewing manager (i.e. Linkedin profile).
When checking the interviewer's profile pretty much nothing made sense: too little internal control / audit experience, unexplained blanks and overlaps (i.e. working 2 full-time positions in completely different locations at once). Non-sensical to the extreme. Kind of wondered if had I been the interviewer I would want to hire the person. Response; no. Then wondered if I would even want to meet the person. Response: no. Anyway, I need a job and go to the interview.
During the meeting, pretty much obvious the manager is out of her depth on all accounts and needs somebody with my background to survive....
Meet with HR and the interviewer's manager. Pink elephant in the room, they hired the interviewing manager who is not delivering and instead of getting rid of the person, decide to hire another person under the manager to...actually perform this person's job!!
I ace the interview, outline my expectations (in-line with industry-level). At this level, I am hesitating to accept any offer unless I see some hope that the interviewing manager gets the chopper pretty quickly after I joined.
Offer comes in: 30% lower than my last salary. I reject. They come back. Again and again again. 2 months later, they finally matched my expectation but after so much bad vibes I still give them the slip.
One of my two worst interview experiences ever. Avoid at all costs.
