I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Shiver Entertainment in Apr 2015
Interview
In about a week after submitting the online application, they sent a doc file containing a programming test, which asked to be finished no more than 2 hours. There were too many questions to be finished in time, but they are not that hard to solve. You should be familiar with assembly optimization, doubly linked list, graphics-related math, etc.
I applied through college or university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Shiver Entertainment (Miami, FL)
Interview
I initially heard about Shiver Entertainment from my school's career development department. I submitted my resume and received an email within a week. The email contained a coding exam which was nothing overly complicated. The questions ranged from theoretical optimization problems to basic programming vocabulary. After I submitted my answers, I received a few emails from their operating secretary about times for a phone interview. The phone interview was with their Technology Lead who was a very polite, but honestly quiet individual. This was just a personal information interview to see if I passed the initial, "Are you a jackass," Test. The interview went on longer than he expected which was gave me high hopes for later. He ended the conversation mentioning that he will have his secretary forward me the information for coming in for a in-person technical interview. The office is only temporary since the company is only a start-up. I met with the three head names for the company and we all proceeded to begin with the interview. It started off like any other with them looking over my resume asking me questions. Then the two I hadn't spoken on the phone with exited while the Tech Lead administered the technical portion of the interview. This was a very abnormal technical interview, however. It didn't involve ANY coding questions at all. I was given two whiteboard questions. The first was a theoretical optimization problem to do with Collision checks and smoothing the FPS to a constant 60 when bullets are fired. The second was a question where you are given an image in the form of a 2D array of colors. Everything in the image was white space other than the images within them (think spritesheet, but the images aren't ordered in any way). The task was to be able to return the RECT's of each subimage in order to store them in a spritesheet. The two gentlemen that left previously were invited back for further questioning. They wrapped up with me asking them a few questions and we parted ways. I heard back from them within a few days saying that they didn't have a position within the company for me, but they would keep my resume on file for future expansion of the company.
