The first part of the application was to build a trial store and complete some tasks, this was time consuming and a lot of effort was put into it. The 2nd part was a Skype 'interview' which was scheduled over Skype. This was very informal and I was told at the start the interviewer had not seen my Resume or the Shop I'd built. The interviewer was nice but this I feel is a front they put on. Ultimately you're being judged by this person if they think in their opinion you're cool enough / trendy enough / hot enough ? To work for shopify as not a single question about my previous experience was asked.

Question 1
Tell me about your life starting from when you left high school
Sorry to hear that your interview experience with Shopify wasn't a good one. We ask candidates to build a store so they can have some fun with their application instead of sending a resume and generic cover letter. It also gives us a good laugh when watching the funny videos.
The team reviews every application - otherwise you wouldn't have had an interview. ;) We never base our decisions on how cool you are. We actually look to see how authentic you are, the level of impact you would have, how engaged you have been and your own level of self-awareness.
I hope this helps clear things up.
