I applied through other source. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify (London, England) in Oct 2021
Interview
Was reached out to on LinkedIn from the Hiring Manager and was very clear about my own personal doubt about being capable to fulfil the role. Was assured that I had a chance and that a member of the recruitment team would reach out.
The Recruitment Team did in fact reach out and we scheduled a ‘Life Story’ interview.
I completed the interview, it was very informal and involved- as expected - recounting my life story. Interview took the full allocated hour and I was assured that I would hear back one way or another within a week.
A week came and went, I didn’t hear anything. I think three months have now passed and nothing. For a company that claim to put a lot of effort into their hiring/employee experience it was overall very disappointing.

Interview
Worst interview process I have ever gone through.
Pre interview they asked for 4 minute video of me teaching something.
1st round was 1 hr lifestory interview, you can find lots of details about it here already so won't expand much.
2nd round was technical/behavioral interview with hiring manager. First one they scheduled was a no show by them (blamed on some glitch in their scheduling software but no apology given). Second interview feels almost the same as lifestory but with a different interviewer and a couple technical presentations sprinkled in. Annoying to have to basically do the same interview twice plus with the no show is a lot of time to be sneaking away from current job.
3rd round was a panel interview with a mock training session to be delivered to the panel. The coordinator scheduled the interview and told me the info about the training would come shortly. I kept following up for a couple of days but didn't get the info until 6pm the day before the interview. They wanted training on the Storefront API plus the benefits and challenges of headless commerce. Had to cram that night to learn about the subject make the training material and practice delivery. Didn't leave much time for practice. Delivery of the training the next day felt like it went well, got good feedback from the interviewers.
After all that which probably ended up taking 12+ hours of my time between interviews, making a video, making a presentation, practicing, actually interviewing and no shows they completely ghosted me. Not even a sorry we went forward with a different candidate.
