It didn't start the right way. I applied online and was scheduled for the life story interview when they cancelled it due to uncertainty (this is when layoffs happened and their stock plummeted). After a few months I got an email asking if I wanted to continue with the process, which I agreed and I had the life story interview. Life Story: this interview is a 30/45 min interview where basically you go in and start telling everything about yourself. basically your life journey that ended with you having that interview. not much prep is needed just have some examples about how you exceeded in your past positions and also could be something you did personally. there was only 5 minutes left for questions, and the interviewer did not had any knowledge about the program or what the next steps were. when asked about the prospects of transitioning to PM in Shopify she did not have any information and said she would follow back (guess what, she did not). I got an invitation for the second round which was the technical interview. This is a 60 minute interview with a PM from Shopify. You know when you do your research and for all other FAANG companies they have 5 different interviews where they go over different scenarios (like root cause analysis, product sense, etc) well here they condense everything into an hour interview. They give you a scenario where you have to first understand the root cause, go over the problem with the interviewer, come up with 3 different solutions (actually designing the solution on a piece of paper), set up at least 5 different metrics for each of the solutions and then do a prioritization model to see which solution would be the best one. again, all of this in UNDER 60 MINUTES. Talk about setting someone up for failure from the beginning. You cant expect to go deep and provide a meaningful response that covers all those topics in under an hour when all other top tech companies have one interview for each, its ridiculous. To add to this, once you have gone through everything of course there is no time left for questions, which nowadays this is the most important part of an interview. its supposed to be a 2 way conversations not an exam you are sitting on. Overall, if you really like the company and what they do give it a shot but have your expectations ready. This company seems to be a very top down feature development. They seem to be guided by executives thoughts rather than market research.
