I applied online. I interviewed at Single Grain in Mar 2018
Interview
Their recruiter (not sure if in-house or external) called me via Skype for a brief call to discuss the role. She was very scattered regarding which role I should apply for as there was also a sales manager role open. I was more interested in the Customer Success role and was told it was full-time at a specific pay rate.
The recruiter asked me to fill out this antiquated PDF asking for a lot of information that I felt was inappropriate for where we were in the process. I gave the information I was comfortable giving but did not give the 6-8 references that were asked for and some other information.
After that, she asked me to do the DISC assessment from Tony Robbins. The website was down so I wasn't able to do it right away, but did it as soon as the website was back up. Then she asked me to do a typing test. It was comical how piece mealed she gave me everything.
I was moved to the next step which was a short call with the CEO. He was brief and direct which was fine with me. The only problem is that he told me the Customer Success role was 10-15 hours at most as this company is early-stage and doesn't have enough revenue to support a full-time role.
I ran the numbers again after the call and decided I would need at least 20 hours per week at 20% above the top range of the pay scale in order to make only $60,000 (as a contractor with no benefits). I received a quick generic response saying they were no longer interested.
I could have saved a lot of my time if the recruiter was upfront with me about the role.
