The interview was online and pretty simple, they just asked me to go through my portfolio and seemed interested until they found out I would need a work visa (I’m not American) which confused me because I did say I needed sponsorship to work in my application so thought they already knew. They also thought I went to an entirely different university than I did even though it was the one if there first things they would read on my resume. They didn’t let me know I didn’t get the position till a month later when I emailed and asked HR.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (New York, NY) in Jan 2024
Interview
Interview process was relatively straight forward with an initial screening from the HR department and interview scheduled for the next week. The day and time was later scheduled because the (2) associates who were conducting the interview could not make it. During the interview there were (5) people in the room, none of which I was told I would be meeting with ahead of time. (3) of the people ended up leaving the interview because of another meeting and I was left with (2) designers from the interiors team. Both of them had not been with the company for that long and did not seem to have much experience interviewing candidates for this position. It was unclear who I would be working with, if selected. Otherwise, the interviewers (2) seemed impressed with my work, although one of the people who had left the interview earlier said he wanted more work samples emailed. I emailed the additional work samples with a description of my role in the projects to the HR manager as requested. Never heard back from either the interview team or HR about the results of the interview despite multiple attempts on my part to reach out to them. Later I got an automated email from their HR software that I was "not selected for an interview". Very confusing.

Interview
The curve ball is that you should have zoom installed on your computer and internet connection to share your portfolio. I was not informed of this prior and brought an older and easier to carry laptop to my interview. Although they liked my work experience and portfolio, I think in the part where I ask questions, they maybe didn't like that I asked about the benefits? Not really sure why they didn't get selected for another round. I also asked about onboarding process. Etc
