This is an open interview inviting everyone who has applied online to attend. It starts with checking in, which begins at 5:00 with doors closing at 6:00 so be sure to get there early. They take a copy of your resume and ask if you have a letter of recommendation. Then you meet one of the recruiters to be measured with your shoes off to make sure you are within the height requirements. After that you’ll be in a room with all of the other applicants. This is the time to smile and socialize as the recruiters are watching. At 6:00 they begin a presentation of SkyWest as a whole, what the flight attendant position entails, and the specifics such as training and reserve life, and there is a time for questions after the presentation. Be sure to have one prepared, but make it one more about the company and less about the benefits and pay. Afterward, there is a short break. Then they have each applicant stand up and answer the question in 60 seconds or less of what would make a good flight attendant. This is the time to really showcase yourself and the customer service background you may have and what you think it means to be an ideal candidate. It’s okay to be nervous but try not to ramble and make it more about what you can offer to the company rather than what you can gain from them, meaning don’t say that you want to see the world or things along those lines. After everyone has gone, they will take about 45 minutes to an hour to go over everyone’s answers, as well as resumes and online applications. Then they tape a paper to the door with the names of those they have selected to move forward. If your name is not on the paper you are free to go. Though I was not selected, the interview was my first airline interview and definitely gave an insight as to just how competitive the position is and was a good experience. Overall, make sure you dress the part, be punctual, and be yourself! And don’t be discouraged if you are not selected! There are many many other airlines out there and SkyWest will invite you to reapply 90 days after the date of the interview if you want to try again with them. Good luck!
