I applied through an employee referral. The process took 12 months. I interviewed at Slalom (Chicago, IL) in Mar 2015
Interview
The lead recruiter was extremely friendly and helpful throughout the process. I had accepted another job mid-way through the process with Slalom and the recruiter kept in touch for the 13 months I was with the other firm. I interviewed again in Spring 2015 and I was very excited to join Slalom. The recruiting process is very important to me, and can be quite sensitive, however the leadership and recruiter were very professional. Overall, this experience tops all other companies' interview processes. Excellent with following up and communicating expectations.
Due to the nature of the localized model at Slalom, this company does not hire to simply increase headcount. There seems to be a delicate approach to hiring and allocating Consultants based on their need, the firm's outlook, and practice needs. I appreciate this strategy as I am able to work in practice areas and industries that I am passionate about, as opposed to being pegged into a position that is of little interest to me.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Specific questions related to my past experience and trying to tie into Slalom's practice area needs and future growth.
Mostly standard consulting interview questions: ask about your past work experience, what were the difficulties and how you overcame these difficulties, etc. Overall process took a little bit longer than expected due to difficulty to get interviewers' availability.
Recruiter screening focused on background and fit, followed by a hiring manager interview assessing technical and consulting skills, and a final director round evaluating strategic thinking, communication, and overall alignment.
