I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Smile Direct Club (Nashville, TN) in Oct 2018
Interview
I was contacted by an outside recruiter and they submitted my resume to the hiring manager. They scheduled me for an interview the very next day. I interviewed with the hiring manager, a team, member, and two other accounting managers. The interview was easy. They asked about my experience and asked normal behavioral questions to see if I would fit in with the group. Although the interview process was smooth, enjoyable and easy I wasn’t a fan of how the rest of the process went. According to the recruiter that submitted my resume to Smile Direct Club the hiring manager gave them positive feedback and they really liked me however stated that since I was one of the first to interview it would be another week or so before they made their decision. After that per the recruiter Smile Direct Club kept giving different dates of when they were going to decide however the date that they stated would come and we would hear nothing. I'm not sure if it was a disconnect between Smile Direct Club and the recruiter however it just did not sit well with me. It’s ok to not choose people for a position however it is not ok to lead them on. I’m hoping that the reasoning for all of this was because of a disconnect between Smile Direct Club and the recruiting agency because Smile Direct Club seems like a great place to work from what I could tell from my interaction with them.
I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Smile Direct Club (Nashville, TN) in Jul 2019
Interview
I applied for this position on 6/19 and received a phone screening with HR within the next week. On 6/27, I went in for an interview with the Sr. Tax Manager and Senior Accountant. The interview involved some behavioral questions but was also very conversational. Both people I met with were very friendly and able to explain details of the company/position. I felt pretty confident leaving the interview but was called later and told that I would need to come in for a second interview. This totally caught me off guard as no one had mentioned the possibility of a second interview during the process. On 7/8, I had my second interview with the HR partner and VP Controller. This was the first time I had ever interviewed face-to-face with someone in HR so I thought that interesting. She asked mainly behavioral questions. The VP controller was friendly as well and gave me more details about the position itself. Weeks went by and I assumed that they had went with someone else. Then on 7/29, I got a text from HR about an update. I submitted a formal application the next day and was told that I would probably have an offer on the next day. The week went by and I didn't hear anything. Fast forward to today, I finally am notified about the offer letter. At this point I had accepted another position with another company that I thought would be a better fit. The entire process also made me uneasy and anxious as I never expected it to take 48 days. I was told a couple of times that people were on vacation but the weeks of silence was concerning because I kept flipping back and forth in my mind thinking that I may not get the position. By the end I had received multiple interviews/offers from other places. SDC seems like a cool place to work but I do recommend speeding up the hiring process or communicating more if there are going to be delays!
