Started off with a brief phone interview with the Technical Talent Acquisition person then another phone interview with the director that went well enough that I was asked in for an interview.
They don't have designated parking or do validation so I had to pay $18 for the privilege of going in for an interview. Two of the guys that would have been on my team were there with another one on the phone. Was asked the normal DevOps questions regarding CI/CD, Docker, Infrastructure as Code, etc. but the guys in the office had their laptops with them and appeared to be more intent on reading what was on their screens than listening to my answers. Once they were done the director came in and grilled me on Terraform and AWS. The conversation was pretty easy so I felt good about how the interview went as I left.
I waited a few days and emailed the talent acquisition guy but he was out until the following week. Once he returned it had been over a week since the interview. He said he would touch base with the director and get back to me that morning. A week later I still had heard nothing so I emailed again and was told that he had spoken with the director and the director thought my salary requirements didn't match up with my DevOps experience so would I be willing to lower them?
My problem is that my salary requirements were known way BEFORE I even began interviewing with them. So why did it take two and a half weeks to determine you had a problem with them? I could have been told that the day of the interview but they decided to jerk me around instead. I did offer to come down a little on my salary but after not receiving any response after two more days I told them forget it. In this situation they were the faces of the company and their actions told me that this company does not know the proper way to treat people. So ultimately, I am glad I found out ahead of time and did not take the position.
