The interview was via the 24|seven agency hiring a contractor for Smith Optics. The team was looking for a contractor for 3-6 months, with an unclear timeline and an opportunity to go full time (which I found out later). Besides not having a clear, defined time of the contract, there were hiccups from the Smith Optics team. They were working on launching their website, and I had my interview scheduled a week in advance. 5 minutes into the interview time, I received an email from the hiring manager that she will not be able to make it to the interview. As a person who would be a potential employee, this was a huge red flag in terms of time management from the team itself. My interview got rescheduled to the following week, in which the same hiring manager was late 10 minutes for the short 30-minute interview. I also had a second-round which was the final round, and instead of the one person I had prepared to meet, I ended up meeting with 2 people, one of which my recruiter did not tell me would be there (she was even higher up). I let all of that go and figured okay they obviously need help and this is still a great opportunity, but then they said they'd let me know the following day and ended up not having a decision until late the following week, in which they were still "getting approvals" - As a company with significant finances, I had thought they would have gotten approvals cleared before starting the interview process rather than after finding a great candidate. They also wanted me to start 2 days later, not giving me any time to make a decision that got delayed on their end 2 separate times. When the recruiter from 24|seven reached out to me, she had said the role would be "100% remote" and after the Smith Optics extended the offer, she shared that the company would require me to move to Portland. Overall, it was a terrible interview experience, and I wish I had not taken the interviews as it wasted both my time and the company's time. To be clear, I felt the people that I spoke to were intelligent, nice, and would have been great colleagues in terms of getting along with them, however the experience is what changed my perspective. I thought about it as a potential employee; they didn't value my time as much as their own and if I were hired, I don't feel confident that it would have been a positive workplace.
