The interview consisted of a phone screen followed by a video interview. I found out during the first interview that 10 hours a day for 6 days a week is very normal. There are programs to compensate for the extra time. The work-life balance initiative was stated to be one Saturday off per month. This was played off as the normal for the meat processing industry and something which they could not change. This felt disingenuous because Smithfield is a leader in the meat processing industry. They could make the change in the industry norms if they really wanted to change it.
