I was very excited to interview with Soundhound. They are expanding across the restaurant industry and other verticals, and it is an interesting time to be in this space. The recruiter was really nice and had many positive things to share. While the excitement lingered, my interview with the hiring manager was very disappointing. The interviewer was completely distracted (due to some ongoing work in the background) during the whole interview process. While I understand about emergencies, either the interview needs to be moved to another slot to make the interview experience memorable. The interviewer kept looking behind the camera, would go on mute suddenly and would return back. This whole distraction left a very negative experience for me. Secondly, when you are excited about a company and ask questions about the company, the growth opportunities you would expect them to share some enthusiasm. The response was so drab and dull with no forward looking path that made me even wonder if this 1 hour of time was even worth spending in a company that doesn't have their own employees excited or say good things about the company. For sure, I would not want to work under a manager who doesn't encourage growth or talk about what are the areas one could expand in. I walked out an hour and 10 minutes later with such a negative sentiment, and of course, I did not even make it to the next round. I was not disappointed about that at all, but the experience made me think strongly about how a senior manager at that position could conduct such interviews and expect people to want to work here.
