      Mechanical Engineer Interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Space Micro (San Diego, CA) in Jan 2020

      Interview

The whole process took a couple weeks. I was brought in to talk with the team (3-5 engineers) and then was called back the next day to talk with the VP of engineering and the CEO. Interview with the team was technical, the interview with the VP was focused on my questions about the company, and the interview with the CEO was to make sure I was a "culture fit." The CEO also kept complaining that he didn't like working with recruiters because he had to pay them a lot of money. I received an offer later that night, and was pressured to accept right away. The recruiter also kept telling me how Space Micro had rescinded job offers to people who negotiated too hard. Also, don't expect a comprehensive information packet with an offer. I was told in the offer letter "you will be eligible to join the Space Micro Medical, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance plan..." and that they had a 401k plan. No details whatsoever about the plans or other benefits. Nothing. When I asked for more information, HR declined and said, "the vast majority of our benefits have been listed in the offer letter." Major red flag that they try to hide their benefits. I should have paid attention... I accepted the offer because it was in the space industry and the pay was great. I shrugged off the red flags thinking I could handle it. Major mistake.
