      Principal Client Support Engineer Interview

      Mar 14, 2013
      Anonymous employee
      Seattle, WA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at SparkPost (Seattle, WA) in Mar 2011

      Interview

I went through a couple of phone interviews, specifically a phone screen and then a more in-depth interview with the Director of Support. After that, they flew me out to the Seattle location where I interviewed with that Director in person, one of the more senior support staff, and the CTO, in increasing technical focus. This is a little different from the current process however. Currently, most people in this or similar positions will do the phone screen then interview with one or both of the support managers, and then will come in for an in-person interview with the support team as a panel. This second interview is somewhat technical, but is generally more casual because of the nature of a panel interview. This is generally followed with a quick call with the Director, and then a final decision is made.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The nature of the interviewing process is that of seeking out where the limits of a candidate are, so the most difficult question will vary. Answer confidently when you know, and be honest when you reach your limits. For example, it's been awhile for me since my interview here, but I think the tougher questions had to do with memory management - particularly as it came to lists and heaps and the implementation, sorting, and traversal of linked lists. As a non-developer this was pushing around the edges, especially when it came to actually sketching it out. I have the concept, but making working code on the fly is another story. But it only went that far I think because I'd answered the prior questions in this area.
