I applied just before Halloween and got called for an interview November 19. The assistant manager took me to some chairs outside of Macy's for the interview. He had a preprinted list of interview questions to ask me which were all the basic cheesey interview questions (Why do you want to work for Spencer's? What do you like most about Spencer's? What do you like least?) and then he moved onto scenario questions (Tell me about a time you had to work with others..., tell me when you saw someone doing something unethical...., etc). Interview was very informal, laid back, and lasted about half an hour. I was called next week by the store manager offering me the job.

When I originally applied, they still did paper applications. Nowadays the company has switched to online applications. I was hired and eventually ended up getting promoted to sales supervisor. I was allowed to conduct a few of my own interviews when we were searching for seasonal help. On the interview sheet there's a LOT of scenario questions to ask. Some managers ask all of them (I think they just like to see all the boxes filled in) but at my store, we only did 3 or 4 main ones. Each response to the scenario questions are graded based on what kind of answer was given. Basically, use common knowledge and you'll do fine. You'll be asked to verify your availability, willingness to submit to a drug test and/or background check, and be given a job description of the position you're applying for.
An easy, fun and great way to figure out the job, they really walk you through and make you feel comfortable and know what your getting into.the questions are easier than you think and more fun.
laid back, on the sales floor, very chill. it was with the store manager and assistant manager. wanted to know if i was fine with training and selling what was in the back of the store and jewelry.

Keep in mind, THEY called ME to schedule an interview. The hiring manager who interviewed me acted like I was bothering her for coming in at my scheduled time. While we were interviewing it was like she couldn't even pretend to be interested at all. Like she was just going through the motions to get me out of there. Facial expressions were not pleasant either. I honestly should've walked out, but I wanted to be polite and professional. At the end she couldn't even be bothered to tell me whether or not they'd be in contact or when to expect them to accept or reject me. I was told that's it, have a good day, and I was walked out. I figured I wouldn't be hired just based on her nasty attitude, but I never even received at least a rejection afterwards. Figures that's what happens when visible posers work at alt stores.
