Received a phone interview request from the tech recruiter. I spent a lot of time researching Spotify's culture, the role, their unique workflow processes and product. The recruiter was very impersonal and the interview was rushed. The way she worded her questions was in a sneaky "gotcha" manner -- after she heard my answers, she used my experience against me to make me defend why I applied to the Web Engineer position. I am a fullstack engineer who specializes in the frontend and she seemed to think that my knowledge of the backend made me a weak candidate for the frontend-only Web Engineer role (interesting bit of logic here). The recruiter seemed only interested in checking off boxes/requirements for the role and not really understanding how much each candidate's unique perspective and experience can bring to the role. She said she would follow up in a week, but of course I never heard back. This is the only company I've applied to (out of 43) that ghosted me completely. Spotify used to be one of my dream companies to work for because of their supposedly wonderful culture, but it just seems like another corporate drone of a company to me after this terrible experience.
