I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Spotify (Tokyo) in Jun 2019
Interview
Applied online, received e-mail request for Google Hangouts video interview with HR located in Singapore. HR explained interview process, and mentioned that the position has been open for a long time and that they are having difficulty filling the position. HR seemed to be unaware that Japan has a severe labor shortage, and some areas (particularly IT, engineering, data science) have an extreme shortage. I suggested that maybe they have unrealistic expectations.
Second interview with IT team was again by Google Hangouts, but the audio did not work. After spending 45 minutes trying to get it to work, we decided to hangup and re-schedule. HR contacted me for re-scheduling. I thank them for their time, but said I was not interested and did not want to move forward with the interview process since it was taking up too much of everyone's time. Very polite HR wished me well. The IT team also seemed to consist of very friendly & nice people.
I had difficulty connecting on video interviews with some other companies whose offices are located in Singapore. Maybe these companies should pay for a business service instead of trying to use free video services.

I applied online. I interviewed at Spotify (Toronto, ON) in Apr 2026
Interview
So, At first it was HR interview, After that a technical interview (SQL and Python - 2 questions each) and a long code of SQL that needed to be explained.
After that. I had an interview with Hiring Manager and a case study in the last round. It had 4 rounds in total.
The hiring manager started the first round interview with "I'm gonna get ahead of this but based on your experience I don't think it's a good fit." Huh?? Then why do the interview in the first place? this wasn't even a referral? They were dismissive the whole interview and I couldn't wait for it to end. Also mentioned the role wouldn't be technical which tells me the JD was misleading. Additionally, the pay is below average for the level of experience they were requiring. Overall, not worth it - especially if the interview would be indicative of management style.
