I was interviewing remotely for EMEA remote job at Spotify, summer 2021. Got contacted by a recruiter and started the process. First step was a call with the recruiter about my background, experience and a discussion about the whole interview process.
The second interview was 75 minutes long with 2 data engineers. The questions were from every aspect of engineering: some data structures, a coding task, data engineering questions, specifically MapReduce.
The third step was 4 interviews each an hour long in 1 day plus half an hour chat with 2 of Spotify employees. There were data, algorithms, values and system design interviews. As my recruiter kept saying it I will mention it here too: values interview is super important, Spotify tries to make sure to include people with the same qualities as their values and beliefs. Algorithm interview was a coding session on an already drafted code with data engineering elements in it. System design interview was a very interesting discussion about an ETL pipeline of your choice and how you would handle creating something from scratch. Data interview was a case study of an actual incident that has happened at Spotify.
