A few conversations with professors followed by revision of perfomance in prior classes of related study / area. A majority of this process was demonstration of interest in teaching and having had a good track record in said department.

Straightforward based on past class experience and working with the professor to submit good quality information. Took a class that was very helpful and then decided to apply for TAship based on my interest. The professor discussed the role and responsibilities and asked questions about focus areas.
