I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at State of California (Sacramento, CA) in Jan 2019
Interview
There was a panel of 3 managers. One was an SSM II and the others we’re SSMI I’s. Before the interview I took a written examination. This was basically preparation for a 5 minute presentation that I had to do as soon as I walked in the interview. I was given 20 minutes to complete this assignment. After that, I was given 10 minutes to review the interview questions. I went into the interview and gave my 5 minute presentation. I was asked about 8 questions in a panel format. There isn’t much dialogue during this process, as the interviewers are writing everything you say that applies to the question. After this portion, i was able to ask them questions. I recommend you do this. Come up with 5 good questions that you legitimately want answers to. The entire process took around 1.5 hours.
Interview questions [3]
Question 1
How would you go about implementing a new task to your staff with no increase in budget or staff?
Submit applications and receive no communication. Even as current state of california employee. Many positions not for interview but no feedback on why. Feels like an internal process even in current agency.
I applied online. The process took 8 weeks. I interviewed at State of California (Los Angeles, CA) in Jun 2023
Interview
Interview was extremely formal and left no room to talk outside of the questions asked. Many questions were strictly about what you would do in particular situations or what you have done to remediate conflict in projects.

Question 1
Describe a time you had a conflict with a projection and how did you handle it.
Depending on the agency you are speaking with, interviews can be organized, sometimes they take place in a conference room. Some agencies ask questions and let the candidate answer. Some agencies provide the candidate with the agency's vision and mission statement, but not all. Some agencies will provide one and not the other, or both.
