Was contacted on WhatsApp to schedule for a screening call. After setting a time, the person was an hour late without any heads-up. The screening started off alright with basic questions about my career journey and general experience, then moved on with a brief explanation about the role (which covers APAC region).
This was where things started to went downhill. The person started asking me elementary and somewhat unpractical questions about my past companies (e.g. how we operate, how we earn profit, etc). I could tell she knows very little about the media and comms industry.
But what really annoyed me was how intrusive and persistent she was in knowing every single detail of why I left my previous employer. Despite providing clear reasonings, she kept demanding for further explanation and specific examples of my negative experiences. Every single one of my response was met in a doubtful and judgemental tone.
She didn't even bother to acknowledge the fact that I check nearly every box for this job role; nor what I can contribute with my experience and skillset. She's more concerned in learning how online journalism makes money and figuring out why I left my previous employer after over a year. In the end, I could tell no matter how qualified I am or if I'm the perfect fit for this role, in her books I'm automatically out because I was judged for not having a longer career span in my previous employment.
In the end, she said she'll get back to me to let me know if I made it through to the next stage. As expected, didn't hear from her. To that person (Jingjing, based in Singapore), you really need to be more professional in knowing the field/industry of the job you're recruiting for. And save your condescending and judgemental tone for your own personal life. Also, be punctual! Late a few minutes is understandable, but an hour without any notice is simply absurd.
