I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Stripe (Singapore) in Sep 2019
Interview
A total of 5 rounds - HR phone screen, Team member video interview, Written project, VC interview with 4 different people (4 hours) including the hiring manager and lastly HR cultural fit interview which I’d say are long, exhausting and a bit unnecessary considering that this is basically a client support job. I read the reviews and did all my research just to make sure that I know the company well before applying. The recruit was nice and friendly. However it became a negative experience when it got to the VC round. I was being tested and judged by my coding knowledge when in fact the job description does NOT advertise anything about coding knowledge in the requirements and that I was reassured by the recruiter ‘we’re not here to test your coding.’ I completely understand that coding knowledge would help the job and I’m willing to learn if that’s what it takes. But it was unfair to be evaluated based on this (if that’s the reason I was rejected?). I did my best to complete the analytical & coding tests and in the coding test the answers were mostly correct except some issues with the format and an error I was able to self-correct. The interviewer seemed to be so strict on my mistakes (again you read my cv and you know I didn’t come from a coding background. If you want a perfect candidate with coding knowledge, should’ve sent someone with coding experience for the job interview so we didn’t waste each other’s time). It’s like asking an engineer to bake you a cake. Again I FULLY understand that coding knowledge is helpful to the job and this is a tech company and all but this should be an on-the-job training. And I put in almost 2 weeks in total prepping for the interviews. Not to mention the entire interview process was draining. I’d have to agree with other candidates here. Once they lose interest in you, they will stop contacting. Upon finishing my VC interview, I DID NOT even get a response. Whether it succeeded or failed, should’ve let your candidate know. This is that least you could do and it’s a respectable and responsible thing to do. I had to email twice to get a reply. Not to mention no feedback even requested (the funniest thing is they ask you for your feedback when they aren’t transparent enough to give you theirs) but I sort of expected after reading the reviews here. I wish I could say otherwise. But the reality it is just like what everyone else’s saying. But this was an experience. I’d channel it into a positive one only because it helped sharpen my interview skills. But that’s all. Not recommended to people who don’t have time. Their interviews require so much time, focus and work. Their way of treating unsuccessful applicants is very questionable. Even if I become suitable for a role in their company in the future, I won’t go for it anymore. Thanks but no thanks.

Interview
I got an interview through a referral. First interview was with the recruiter who was very nice. After that, I was given a written assessment which they wanted to be completed in 2-3 days. The written assessment was only supposed to take 1-2 hours, but it took me 3-4 hours. They give a lot of good resources to answer the questions, but it’s hard to feel confident in your answers since as a interviewee you aren’t familiar with the product — hence why it took me 3-4 hours.
After the written assessment I had a zoom call with a hiring manager. The hiring manager was very nice and I could tell was a good/natural leader, however, I didn’t feel like they asked me questions where I could showcase my skill set. It was more of a conversation vs an interview. It made me feel like I couldn’t showcase my skill set and accomplishments without sounding awkward and like I was showing off — even though I feel like you’re supposed to show off in an interview. Also, prior to the interview with the hiring manager, the recruiter advised I have my accomplishments prepared, so thought it was kinda weird that those were not really asked about and that it didn’t really seem like that was the nature of the interview.
Didn’t make it past the hiring manager interview, but really enjoyed everyone I spoke with. Two things I thought was weird was that after I got an email that I got an interview with the hiring manager they had me fill out the full job application even though I had already gotten an interview with the recruiter after I was referred. Second thing was that they give a plethora of resources to learn more about Stripe before your first interview with the recruiter. The resources included several podcasts, two of them being at least 45 minutes and the others being almost 2 hours. While I enjoyed listening to the podcasts and reading the articles they sent, it seemed like an overload of information and almost gave me anxiety thinking of all of the potential questions they could ask me. Also, I felt like it was a lot for someone who already has a full time job. On top of that the recruiter advises you to study up on Stripe before the interview with the hiring manager — just seemed like they really wanted me to know a lot about the product. The hiring manager actually even acknowledged that I had studied Stripe a lot but I guess it wasn’t enough to move forward.
Overall, I enjoyed everyone I talked to and would apply again in the future if they would take me.
