      Business Recruiter Interview

      May 18, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Stripe in Mar 2019

      Interview

Circa 2019: Well networked with the company and strong connections to current employees. I progressed through several conversations with different recruiters/leaders. The most challenging aspect to me was that there was no obvious structure to the interview process. The recruiters were obviously looking for something but did not provide context that would support data collection about my skills, abilities or work style. Pro: ample time for questions and relaxed, conversational interview. Timely follow-up and coordination of next steps. Great communication and friendly people. Con: Most of the "interviews" seemed like free-form rifting on "Tell me about yourself" with no guidance or framing. Was unclear if they wanted to hear about my career path, goals, professional accomplishments, work style etc. I asked qualifying questions, but received little feedback so my answers were free form and unstructured. I frequently either attempt to gauge whether what I'm offering is helpful or addressing the question and they assure me I'm doing fine, but their follow on questions continued to lack clarity. Their approach seemed distinct from Amazon-type interviews where interviewers often attempt to mask their reaction (good or bad) to how you're interviewing and the process left me feeling like there was no way they could know what I was capable of or had accomplished and I hadn't had a chance to articulate or showcase my ability.

      Question 1

What do you know about Stripe/why are you interested in Stripe? Tell me about yourself. Looks like you've had interesting experience, tell me more about it. Recent accomplishment you're most proud of.
