Interview
I really appreciated Stripe's commitment to structured interview processes and competency-based interviewing, but the process itself was too extensive to be a positive experience for me. I respect the high bar, but don't necessarily think "more people and more rounds" equals a more effective process.
Overview:
1. Phone screen with Recruiter/hiring manager. We got straight into competency-based questions, so not a casual chat.
2. Phone interview with another sr team member, went straight into competency-based questions.
3. Panel with four 45-min interviews and one 30-min interview, meeting with 7 people total. Each round covered a competency, and there were a few repeat questions, or questions that were worded differently but drilled into the same competency. My background is slightly non-traditional, and one of my interviewers didn't know how to adjust his questions. He kept pushing me to give examples I simply didn't have (versus rewording as a "what would you do" hypothetical).
4. Interview with the Head of the team -- seemed uninterested but I assumed she was busy.

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Stripe (Chicago, IL) in Feb 2025
Interview
My experience was good! It included an initial recruiter screen, followed by interviews focused on sourcing strategy, stakeholder management, and Stripe’s values. Interviewers were well-prepared and asked insightful, scenario-based questions. Communication was clear throughout, and feedback was timely. Overall, a smooth and respectful experience that reflects Stripe’s high standards.
The interview process started with a phone screen, followed by a mock intake, culture interview, and ended with a department leader interview. Overall really friendly team and recruiter provided a lot of prep in advance. Hiring manager also took the time to understand my motivations and concerns throughout the process.
