Interview
I recently had an interview experience with Stripe that left me feeling quite disappointed. The recruiter came across as cold and seemed to lack a solid understanding of the role I was applying for. The interview felt extremely one-sided, with no real conversation or engagement—just a list of pre-written questions being asked without any meaningful follow-up. It didn’t feel like the questions were designed to genuinely assess whether I was a good fit for the role. When I provided my responses, there was no feedback or interaction, which made the process feel robotic and disengaging. Even when it was time for me to ask questions, the recruiter appeared distracted, as if they were still reading from a script. There was no sense of interest or respect toward the candidate, which felt highly unprofessional. After this initial interaction, I immediately realized that the culture at Stripe might not be the right fit for me.

Initial recruiter screen followed by hiring manager interview. After that second round, you are asked to create a presentation based on a hypothetical and review with hiring manager + additional department member.
It was unclear to me why a 2nd person attended the presentation round, as they were on their laptop the entire time, asked no questions, and did not bother to look at the camera when the interview was concluded.

What is one thing you would change in regards to the marketing strategy for a recent Stripe launch?
I met with a recruiter and the hiring manager. I was completely ghosted. It's really disappointing to prepare for an interview, only to be ghosted by the recruiter. I sent a follow-up email regarding the role, and received no answer. Not even a automated rejection letter.

Recruiter reached out. They were genuinely pleasant and cheerful.
Pro Tip: get clarity on the salary range for your location before committing to a screening. They will categorically lowball you by $25K to $40K. They want your experience, but they do not want to pay you for it.
I recused myself after my initial conversation with the recruiter.
