The first interview went well. The technical interview was a joke. If you're hiring people on the west coast of the US, why on earth would the engineer doing your technical interview be in Barcelona? English was not their first language and the internet connection was terrible.
The question was worded strangely and sent over Zoom chat, which has a character maximum and manipulates characters. I spent time just getting the problem into my editor in a way that wouldn't error. Why would they not just send a text file!? When I asked for clarification, they would just say the same oddly worded explanation, which did nothing for my understanding of the problem. I didn't fully understand the 1st question till I was 3/4 of the way through it. This meant there wasn't nearly enough time for the 2nd question.
I have over a decade of experience with Ruby. I have no problem solving problems with it, when the problems are clearly presented. This was a failure of Stripe's process, not of my abilities.
