      Chemical Engineering Co-op Student Interview

      Jun 17, 2014
      Anonymous employee
      Fort McMurray, AB
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Suncor Energy (Fort McMurray, AB)

      Interview

Applied online through their career portal. Took approximately 2 and a half weeks for them to get back to me. They contacted me by email, asking me to phone back to them to schedule an hour-long interview two days after. The interviewer is from a technical background and is a very nice person. He began by asking me to describe things I have done in my resume before moving on to behavioural questions. This lasts for approx. 35 mins; the rest of the time was dedicated to me asking them questions.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Tell me a time when you applied judgement; favourite and least favourite subjects. Tell me a time when you optimised a process; proficiencies with computer softwares.

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Suncor Energy in May 2015

      Interview

Applied and got a phone call within 2 weeks. Just basic questions about working eligibility and then scheduled a phone interview for a later date. Usual STAR questions and final interview was with a recruiter. Overall a convenient process with only a behavioural interview.

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Suncor Energy in Jun 2014

      Interview

I applied through my university's internship program, but online on Suncor's website. Got a call from HR requesting a phone interview one week after job posting closed, also asked some pre-sreening questions (nothing big, just things like how long you are available for, willing to relocate, etc); interview was two days after and offer came within 24 hours. Interviewed with engineers that I would be working with, no HR. Not much behavioral questions, it was really a get to know the company and the role and for them to get to know me, asked questions about experience and skills listed on my resume (just to throw more light on them), asked about projects I had worked on that were listed on my resume. I think the main thing was being able to communicate the passion and desire to work with the company, to learn (very important) and just the general motivation. Phone interviews can be tricky because of the absence of facial expression, etc, but if you prepare and smile your way (its in your voice), you'd be fine

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

There was hardly any difficult or unexpected question - I probably didn't expect the "why did you choose chemical engineering" question but good thing it was one of the questions I prepared for last minute
