Everything seemed perfect up to the point to sign the contract. It was never mentioned that the position I was interviewed for was a maternity leave replacement- and yes, we are talking about a contract that would be literally tied up to another employee’s contract whereas: if the employee decided to resume work, or if that employee contract would terminate, or if that employee decided to quit, my whole contract would be automatically over. I did appeal to change this in the contract offer but it was not well received. I was told that these conditions were mentioned since the very beginning. This was obviously a lie. To be honest I am not even sure this is legal in Slovakia! Few weeks passed and I met a Swiss re current employee that told me she was in these exact conditions. It seems Swiss re is leveraging sneaky contractual terms and trying to get away with it which proves to be a huge disappointment.
