I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at SymphonyAI (London, England) in Feb 2023
Interview
Overall interview process was very swift - 1 week - but there was a big catch - watch out! 1st interview was with a wonderful Data Science team member - went through a summary of CV and experience. Asked questions on ML that probed understanding of problems and methods. No tricks - serious interview where your ability to show understanding and communicate clearly needs to show. 2nd interview was with team leader and other researchers - CV and probed understanding of concepts but also what the job is like and my working style/pattern and expectations. I am very happy with the team that interviewed me and was looking forward to working with them. Quickly got enthusiastic *(verbal) offer* from HR where I was asked to quote salary that would make me stop looking anywhere else. I quoted a salary which was accepted on the spot-was told to expect offer letter within a day. However this momentum was then delayed with the following excuses : CEO being out of town etc. - 2 weeks and the offer was essentially withdrawn with excuse being that : HR leadership team put seemingly all offer activity on hold over the next few weeks. Essentially my experience was that no official offer letter arrived, although verbal offer was given, which caused 2-3 week delay in my job search. - Advice: **Watch out for similar HR experiences**, don't stop looking for jobs even if you get an offer.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Describe how you would choose features to train a model on.
The first interview consisted of CV and projects run through. Then a few hypothetical questions about feature engineering and model selection. Finally we went through my experience with cloud computing.
