The recruiter contacted me about a position with an e-commerce company. Was really only moderately enthusiastic and, despite some holiday slowdown, was still not throughly responsible about the communications or representation. It was fairly obvious to me after some time that either the recruiter was not very familiar with the hiring manager's preferences or didn't have much misgivings about putting a candidate forward and having them complete the coding exam, without a lot of clarity about how to represent them or put their best foot forward. I learned this because after I completed the exam and had it turned in, the recruiter replied (and only after quite some time had passed), that the although the manager liked my coding, they didn't want to move forward because of the short terms of my recent prior engagements. This is a company that the recruiter assured me they had already placed several candidates OVER YEARS, and that some had converted. I am sorry, but to be blindsided by a simply expressed candidate preference after going through successfully the rigamorole of a code exam does not make sense. If I were a candidate now knowing what I know, I would not waste my time with this recruiter, but would place my efforts and the trust of my employment with a more responsible and intelligent company.
