Interview
To become a Transportation Security Officer (TSO) with the TSA, you must go through a series of hurdles beginning with a computer based test (CBT) at a location near you. If you successfully complete the CBT, a credit check will be done after which you will be invited to an airport assessment. At the airport assessment, you will be tested for color blindness and interview with two members of the TSA. If you successfully pass this phase of the hiring process, there are a variety of online forms that you must complete, which leads you to a medical and drug evaluation. For me, the medical evaluation turned out to be the phase in which I was disqualified from further consideration. I was told that I did not pass the hearing test, yet I have never had any problems with my hearing before. When I asked for the results of my hearing test, supposedly they had mysteriously disappeared and could not be located. I later went to a local office of a company that sells hearing aids and had my hearing tested there. The people at this office confirmed that there is nothing at all wrong with my hearing and they could not understand why I would not have passed the hearing exam given to me for the TSO position.
Personally, I feel that the TSA used the medical exam as a means of screening me out for this position since I am White and over 50. Take a look at the people who work in the TSO role at most airports and you'll understand what I mean.
