After two phone screens with an external recruiter that had gone quite well, I met with the CCO on a 45 minute Zoom call. The first 10 minutes were exchanging pleasantries, with the next 15 minutes given to his elevator pitch on the company and what they are looking for in the role. He didn't ask me any questions until I finally asked what he wanted to know about me. He responded saying that in the next interview with him, he would want to know my plan for building the team from the ground up, and what tools would be most beneficial to my success. I would have respected him if he just flat-out told me that I would make a good IC but my lack of managerial experience would forestall interest in further interviews. Typical start-up--touted their YoY revenue growth but lacked precision in describing execution or estimated time to profitability. I wish them success but interviewees beware, that their latest $20MM Series B funding won't last long.
